South Beach parking garages compared: which garage for which plan

Last reviewed: November 6, 2026. Sources for this page are listed in its fact sheet.

Short answer first. Miami Beach runs its own garages, and the city's rate schedule, checked November 6, 2026, puts the standard garages at $2 for the first hour rising to a $20 maximum for 15 to 24 hours, with a lost ticket charged at $20. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., the four core garages charge a $15 flat rate per vehicle. Match the garage to the plan, because each one is built for a different day: the 7th Street garage for an Ocean Drive beach day, the 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue garages for Lincoln Road and the Convention Center, the 16th Street Anchor garage for Collins Avenue shopping, and the 12th Street garage for the middle of Ocean Drive. Confirm the rate at the entrance before you pull in. The city sets event period rates on top of the standard schedule, and February and March weekends are exactly when that happens.

The rate schedule, as the city publishes it

At the standard garages, the 7th Street, 12th Street, 13th Street, 17th Street, City Hall, Pennsylvania Avenue, Sunset Harbor and Collins Park garages, the ladder runs: $2 for the first hour, $4 to two hours, $6 to three, $8 to four, $9 to five, $10 to six, $11 to seven, $12 to eight, $15 out to fifteen hours, and $20 as the maximum to 24 hours. Fees include sales tax. Two garages price differently. The 16th Street Anchor garage matches the ladder to three hours, then charges $10 from three to six hours and $20 from six to 24. The 5th Street and Alton Road garage is free for the first two hours, then $3 to three hours, $5 to four, $7 to five, $9 to six, $12 to eight, $15 to twelve and $20 to 24. One caution from the check itself: the city hosts older rate sheets online that show higher prices. The governing schedule is the one the current rates and the city's November 2024 rollback ordinance support, and those are the figures above. When in doubt, the entrance sign is the law of your afternoon.

Beach day: 7th Street, then 13th Street

G1, the 7th Street garage at 200 7th Street, by Collins Avenue. About one block from Ocean Drive at 7th Street, roughly a two minute walk. This is the beach day garage: in early, out after the sand, and the standard ladder keeps a long beach day at the $15 to $20 lines rather than meter money. G3, the 13th Street garage at 13th Street and Collins Avenue, sits about a block from Ocean Drive at 13th and about 0.4 miles, an eight minute walk, from Lincoln Road, which makes it the split day garage, beach in the morning and Lincoln Road after. Both sit inside the meter district where street parking runs $4 an hour, around the clock in the entertainment blocks. A garage beats a meter past the second hour. It isn't close.

Lincoln Road and the Convention Center: 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue

Two garages anchor the north end, and they're separate buildings. G5, the 17th Street garage, and G9, the Pennsylvania Avenue garage at 1661 Pennsylvania Avenue, both stand by Lincoln Road, about a two to five minute walk to the pedestrian mall and about 0.3 miles, a six minute walk, to the Miami Beach Convention Center at 1901 Convention Center Drive. Ocean Drive is about 0.6 miles east, a twelve minute walk. For a convention day, either garage works and the choice is which entrance line is shorter. For a Lincoln Road evening, remember the weekend rule: these two aren't in the $15 night flat group, which covers the 7th, 12th, 13th and 16th Street garages, but both sit on the city's event flat rate list at $15 per vehicle when an event rate is in force. Our Convention Center guide and the Boat Show where to stay guide build the full event day around this pair.

Collins shopping and the middle blocks: the Anchor and 12th Street

G4, the 16th Street Anchor garage at 16th Street and Collins Avenue, is the Collins Avenue garage, about 0.3 miles, a six minute walk, from Lincoln Road and about two blocks from Ocean Drive at 16th. Its flatter mid range pricing, $10 from three to six hours and $20 after, suits a shopping afternoon that turns into dinner. G2, the 12th Street garage at 12th Street and Drexel Avenue, is the middle Ocean Drive pick, about 0.2 miles, a five minute walk, from the sand at 12th, and it's inside the weekend night flat group. The wider city set rounds out the map for other plans: the City Hall garage, the Sunset Harbor garage across the bay side, the Collins Park garage by the Bass Museum, and the 5th and Alton garage with its free first two hours for a Washington Avenue errand run.

Meters and lots, for short stops

Street and lot parking prices by district on the city's meter page. In the Entertainment District, Ocean Drive to Pennsylvania Avenue between 5th and 15th Streets including Washington Avenue, on street parking is $4 an hour and off street lots are $2 an hour, enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In South Beach south of 23rd Street more broadly, it's the same $4 on street and $2 off street, enforced 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. Time limits vary by block, so the sign on your block governs your stop. The city takes payment through two apps, ParkMobile and PayByPhone; ParkMobile sends a reminder 15 minutes before your time expires. For anything over two hours in the core, skip the meter math and take a garage. For a hotel guest doing this daily, the park and stay comparison in our hotel day passes guide and the South Beach hotels guide is the other half of the decision.

Frequently asked questions

What's the cheapest way to park for a full beach day?
A city garage on the standard ladder, $15 out to fifteen hours and $20 to a full day, against $4 an hour at an entertainment district meter. Past four hours the garage has already won.

Which garage for the Convention Center?
The 17th Street or Pennsylvania Avenue garage, each about a six minute walk. They're two separate garages on the same Lincoln Road end of the map.

Do rates change for big events?
Yes. The city applies event flat rates, $15 per vehicle on the governing schedule at the listed garages, and the entrance sign on the day is the figure that counts. Boat Show, Art Basel and festival weekends are when to expect them.

Is street parking ever the right call?
For a stop under an hour, in the off street lots at $2 an hour, yes. For an evening, a beach day or a convention, take the garage and stop feeding a meter.
