Miami Neighborhoods Guide
Miami is not one place; it is a string of distinct neighborhoods separated by water, causeways, and very different ideas about a good day. This hub is the map: what each visitor neighborhood feels like, who it suits, and where to read the full guide before you book a hotel in the wrong one.

Frequently asked questions
Is South Beach a separate city from Miami Beach?
No. South Beach is the southern end of the city of Miami Beach, roughly the streets below 23rd Street. Miami itself is a different city, across Biscayne Bay on the mainland. The mix up is the single most common Miami geography mistake, and it changes where you should book.
Which neighborhood should I stay in on a first trip?
South Beach if the beach and the Art Deco scene are the trip. Brickell or downtown if you want a city base with easy transit and bay views. Coral Gables or Coconut Grove if you want quiet streets and do not mind driving or rideshares to the beach. Each neighborhood guide above gives the honest trade offs.
Where exactly is Calle Ocho?
Calle Ocho is SW 8th Street, the main street of Little Havana, on the mainland west of downtown Miami. It is not in Miami Beach, despite how often visitors look for it there.
Is Wynwood easy to reach from the beach?
Wynwood sits just northwest of downtown Miami on the mainland. From Miami Beach it is a drive across the causeway; most visitors go by car or rideshare. The Wynwood guide covers arrival and parking in detail.
