Best Time to Visit Miami (Seasons, Prices, Crowds)
Last reviewed: October 26, 2026. Sources for this page are listed in its fact sheet.
Short answer first. For most visitors, the sweet spot is the dry season from December to April: the year's most reliable beach weather, its lowest rain, and its fullest events calendar, at the year's highest hotel prices. Summer flips the trade: lower prices, serious heat, daily storm chances, and hurricane season, which runs June 1 to November 30 (NOAA). There is no wrong season in Miami, only a season whose trade offs you have not read yet.

What are Miami's seasons, exactly?
South Florida really has two seasons. The National Weather Service in Miami defines the rainy season as May 15 to October 15, the stretch that delivers about 70 percent of the area's yearly rainfall, mostly as heavy afternoon downpours rather than all day rain. The rest of the year is the dry season: cooler, less humid, and far more predictable. Atlantic hurricane season, June 1 to November 30 (NOAA), overlaps most of the rainy season, which is why summer trips need the extra planning step described below.
How hot and how wet does it actually get?
These are averages, not forecasts: the 1991 to 2020 climate normals published by the National Weather Service for Miami. In an average August, the high is about 91 degrees and the low about 78, and the month brings about 9.6 inches of rain, which makes it one of the wettest months of the year. In an average November, the high is about 81 and the low about 68, with about 3.5 inches of rain. In an average April, expect highs around 84 and about 3.4 inches of rain. The pattern matters more than any single number: winter and spring are dry and mild, summer is hot and wet, and fall sits in between.
When do crowds and hotel prices peak?
Peak pricing follows the dry season and the big event weekends stacked inside it. Art Basel and Miami Art Week land in early December, the Miami International Boat Show in mid February, the South Beach Wine and Food Festival in late February, Ultra Music Festival in late March, and the Miami Grand Prix in early May; dates for the current editions are in our Miami events hub, verified from the organizers. Add the winter holidays and spring break, and December to April is when Miami is fullest and proudest of its room rates. The same beach, in September, can cost a fraction of the March price; the catch is the weather section above.
When is the cheapest time to come?
Generally, the late summer and early fall weeks of hurricane season, when heat, rain, and storm risk push demand and prices down. It is a real trade, not a trick: you get the same ocean and the same city, with a daily rain plan, flexible bookings, and the storm watching routine in our hurricane season planning guide. Shoulder weeks in late April, May, and November often balance the two sides best: mostly dry season weather without the peak season crush.
The facts that matter
Atlantic hurricane season: June 1 to November 30 (NOAA). Storm activity peaks from August to October, with the maximum in early to mid September (NOAA). South Florida rainy season: May 15 to October 15, about 70 percent of yearly rainfall (National Weather Service Miami). Climate normals used on this page are the 1991 to 2020 normals published by the National Weather Service: August average high about 91, average rain about 9.6 inches; November average high about 81, average rain about 3.5 inches; April average high about 84, average rain about 3.4 inches. Averages describe a typical month, never your specific week.

Frequently asked questions
What is the single best month to visit Miami?
For weather alone, the heart of the dry season, February and March, is hard to beat, and it is priced like it. For value with good weather, look at late April and November, either side of the rainy season.
Is Miami too hot in summer?
It is hot and humid, with average August highs around 91 degrees and warm nights that barely cool down. Plenty of visitors handle it with beach mornings, indoor middays, and evening plans; travelers who dislike heat should not test themselves in August.
Is hurricane season a reason not to come?
Not by itself. Most weeks of the season are storm free for Miami. It is a reason to book refundable rates, read your insurance terms, and watch the National Hurricane Center in the final week, as our hurricane season planning guide explains.
When is the water warmest?
The ocean is warmest in the summer and early fall months and coolest, by Miami standards, in mid winter. Even in winter it stays swimmable for most visitors, which is exactly why the dry season draws the crowds.
